Bastion soundtrack is wicked awesome.

I’ve been listening to the Bastion (the videogame) soundtrack a lot lately.

Highly recommended, you can listen to/preview the entire Bastion album without registering for anything. Thanks, Bandcamp.

Another one bites the du… err, Facebook.

Heard about the music streaming service MOG.com before today? Me neither, but that might be because they’re US-only. Either way, they too are now officially Facebookified.

“Congratulations” are in order.

Some are slightly upset.

New accounts require a Facebook log-in. We’re integrating our MOG log-in to Facebook login to ensure MOG seamlessly integrates with the Facebook Platform. We want to provide the easiest, most personalized, social music listening experience, and connecting via Facebook makes it faster and easier than ever for users to listen to MOG, earn free music and increase viral, free sharing.

-Nate, MOG support

The reply from Silbaco nails it:

No, that is a generic answer and it clears up nothing. Do not make this private. This is between MOG and the community, not just I.

I don’t care about sharing music. I do care about privacy, of which Facebook has none. You are exploiting your users by requiring them to signup for Facebook in order to get an account on MOG. All of those things you listed can be achieved equally as well by offering users the option to integrate with Facebook.

We are your user base. Without us you would not exist. It does not matter how personalized, easy, social, or “viral” it is. The very idea that you require users to offer personal data to a company that tracks your every move, forever, is unforgivable.

Facebook is not MOG. The two should only be intertwined if a user chooses.

No further replies from MOG’s support – they (tried to close) closed the discussion, but Silbaco reopens, but has yet to get a reply.

Smooth.

Private listening

Spotify keeps on impressing… nobody.

Now you can temporarily hide your guilty pleasures. We call it “Private listening” and you can find it in the Spotify/File menu.

From Spotify on Twitter

The commenters at Engadget are appropriately enraged.

When will this nonsense end?

Nice one, Spotify!

Signing up for Spotify will – from now on – require a Facebook account, and that you sign up with that.

Darren from Spotify responds:

This does not stop you creating the Facebook account adding nothing to it and making it totally private as the Facebook account does not have to be actively used.

*sigh*

Andreas from Spotify follows up, “clarifying”:

From this week, all new Spotify users will need to have a Facebook account to join Spotify. Think of it as like a virtual ‘passport’, designed to make the experience smoother and easier, with one less username and password to remember.

Yeah… bye Spotify.
